Horizon Remains

A Warrior Cats Roleplay

Welcome Traveler

Horizon Remains is a discord based roleplay group based off of the Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter. This roleplay takes place within two fan clans called CliffClan and CaveClan, located in a desert region similar to that of Arizona or Texas in the United States. Role playing is done entirely through the Discord app, this webpage is simply a tool for information about the clans.

HorizonRemains was founded by TurkFish on deviantART On April 11, 2017. This is a continuation of that group.

Horizon Remains is for members 18+ only.

Horizon Remains is LGBTQ+ friendly.

Horizon Remains

A Warrior Cats Roleplay

General Rules

Nonmembers are welcome to join the discord (encouraged, actually) but are required to post an introduction in order to be given a roll and added to the general chat. To unlock the full discord channel and be allowed to roleplay, a character must be submitted and approved.
Minors will be booted from the chat. Horizon Remains is for members 18 and older.
Any homophobic, mysoginistic, ableist, racist, etc. behaviors are not tolerated here.
Do not mention triggering topics in main chat. Things like (TW) r/pe, s/xual harassment, p/dophelia are not to be talked about.
Although the group is for adults only, please DO NOT post any sexual or explicit content in the main chats. This content is to be kept to the NSFW channels.
With this said, do not post cat porn or roleplay it anywhere in the group. The mature rating is more for gore than sexual material. We do not sexualize feral cats in this house. The NSFW channels are more for dick jokes, gore art, or nudity art of characters *that are not feral.
Questions can be asked in the #questions channel. Please do not answer questions here unless you are a mod or admin. If you would like to keep your question secret or you have a concern about a member or something else that should not be discussed publicly, you may also use this channel to ask if there is an available mod you can talk to!
If you ask a question, and it is something that is explained here, in the rules or somewhere on this website, you will be linked the web page. Please read things.
Respect ALL of your admins, and all of your fellow members. Do not leave people out. Make sure to acknowledge others when they speak.
Keep all drama outside of this group. If you have a problem with someone in the group, please keep it out of the group, or bring it up to the admins in private!
On that note, keep character drama separate from user drama. Just because someone’s character doesn’t like yours, doesn’t mean that they dislike you! Be civil with everyone even if your characters have it out for each other.
If you would like to immediately stop a conversation please use three consecutive 🚫 emojis. Everyone is to respect this and drop the conversation immediately.[ ie. 🚫🚫🚫 ]

We use a strike system here. You will earn a warning with your first misbehavior. After that, you will earn strikes. If you earn 3 strikes, YOU’RE OUT!!! You will be booted from the group. You may attempt to rejoin after a 3-month period.
If your behavior is extreme, or you exhibit homophobic, mysoginistic, or racist behaviors, this is a base for an instant ban. You will not get strikes, you will get an automatic boot. Be a decent human being.
When DMing a mod, please behave as you would in the main chat. If you are disrespectful or rude, you will be asked to stop. If it continues, the mod will cease conversation with you and another will take their place. You will be given a strike.
The @everyone and @here tags are to be used by mods only, and are typically only for announcements.
Every channel has its own set of rules, aside from general, which are these rules. Please review the pinned comments.
If we find you are trying to evade some of our rules in a sneaky or malicious way, we will issue you a warning.

Combat Rules

Kits have 10HP
Apprentices and MCAs have 20HP
Warriors between 12 and 40 moons have 40HP
Warriors between 41 and 80 moons have 50HP
Warriors between 81 and 120 moons have 40HP
Warriors and Elders 120+ moons have 30HP
Adult Bobcats have 60HP
Medicine cats have 30HP
Deputies have 50HP
Leaders have 80HP

When taking part in a combat rp, please include the amount of HP your character has with your post. (Ex. Samplebelly | Guard | 35/50HP)
You may not save or discard a roll. Only roll when it is your turn to post. Do not roll ahead of time. When rolling, use the bot-rolls channel and please include what you are rolling for either before or after your post!
Character attacking must roll a d20 (t!roll 1d20). Characters take turns while attacking. You can roll your attack in the #rp-rolls category, and then write your response in the corresponding channel.
If you roll a 1-10, your attack will hit its target. Whatever the number you roll is, is the amount of HP your opponent will lose.
If you roll an 11-20, you will miss your target. Rolling a 20 results in an injury, and the attacker will lose 5HP.
CliffClan Guards at or over the age of 45 moons get a +5 hit bonus if their attack roll is a hit, as long as they are in the following territories: CliffClan Territory, The Hunting Circle, Sunning Rockfall
CliffClan Guards at or over the age of 20 moons now get a +2 hit bonus if their attack roll is a hit, as long as they are in the following territories: CliffClan Territory, The Hunting Circle, Sunning Rockfall
CaveClan Warriors at or over the age of 45 moons get a +5 hit bonus if their attack roll is a hit, as long as they are in the following territories: anywhere in CaveClan territory, Moonshine Lake, and Sunning Rockfall
CaveClan Warriors at or over the age of 20 moons get a +2 hit bonus if their attack roll is a hit, PLUS if they are in the following territories: anywhere in CaveClan territory, Moonshine Lake, and Sunning Rockfall
You may intercept a hit on another cat in some instances, ie; defending your clanmate. Please roll a 1d2. If you get a 1, you will be too late and not intercept the hit OR just in general miss, if you roll a 2 you will successfully intercept the hit and take whatever damage was intended to be dealt the original target.
You are allowed to flee from a fight at any time, you don’t have to wait until one cat faints/loses.
These rules will also apply towards NPC fights as well.

Hunting & Recovering HP

Hunting is done by a rolling system. Use( t!roll 1d20 ). You can roll multiple times throughout a hunt, but you must include every hit or miss. If you miss a catch more than 3 times, the prey will escape and you cannot hunt any more during that encounter.
Rolling a 1-10 equals a miss, you failed the catch. The lower the number, the worse the fail. If you roll a 1, your character will lose 5 HP with their spectacular fail.
Rolling an 11-20 equals a success, you caught your prey! The higher the number, the cleaner the catch. If you roll a 20, you can earn 10HP.
CliffClan Hunters at or over the age of 45 moons get a +5 bonus to any hunting roll. If the roll bumps up to equal the number 20 with the bonus, that character gains +10 of their missing HP back!
CliffClan Hunters at or over the age of 20 moons now get a +2 bonus to any hunting roll. If the roll bumps up to equal the number 20 with the bonus, that character gains +10 of their missing HP back!
The most HP a character can gain from 1 success roll is 10. Even if their roll number, after the bonus, is a number higher than 20.
Your character cannot hunt if they are under 10 HP.
To regain HP outside of hunting, you must visit the medicine cat and submit an art piece of your encounter with the medicine cat. The amount of HP you regain will be based off how much effort you put into the piece. See our healing guide here for what kind of rp, visual art, or literature you may submit.
Your character will not die without your permission, unless you are kicked from the group. If your HP hits 0, you’ll just need to visit the medicine cat den. You will not be allowed to roleplay your character outside the medicine cats den until they reach at least 20 HP again.

Kits

Kits are blind and can't speak for 5 days after they are born.
Warriors Can safely have kittens up to 6 years of age. If a queen attempts to bare kits later than that, they will undergo a Death Roll. The older a cat gets, the more likely they will be to die while baring their kittens. Members will have a choice of going through with the litter (killing their queen, yielding motherless kits) or withdrawing the litter.
To have a planned litter of kittens, all requirements for a mateship ceremony must have been reached, and the cats must be Forever Bonded. An additional roleplay and art/literature piece about their relationship post-ceremony will be required. Kittens will be rolled by admins for litter number, gender, and bans.
For an accidental litter, the result of a fling, only two rps between parents and 1 art piece are required. Admins may reject an accidental kitten request.
Planned litters take priority to accidental litters/flings. To be put on the waiting list for a planned litter, contact a mod on discord! Accidental litters are not available for reservation, and may only happen upon the chance that a slot for kittens is open.
When kittens are requested and mods have approved, they will be rolled for privately by mods. We roll for number of kits, gender, and potential to pass down bans.
For all of the above; any art, writing, or roleplay must involve the two characters interacting in some way to count. Both characters must be present in an image/writing piece. In roleplays, the characters must actually fully interact. In a drawn image, they may interact, be talking about each other, etc. Some memes count, but the characters must be drawn and interacting with each other in some way (even if it’s a comment they’re making).
There will be a 6 moon (3 month irl) cool down for the carry and sire of any litter. If a cat was only acting as a surrogate, this number will be halved. There also may be an exception to this for polyamorous relationships.

How to Join

Join the server and leave an introduction in the #introductions channel.
Read all information on this website. Actually. Fucking. Read it.
Create a character.

Fill out this form.

Discord: (username#1234)
Social Media: (an active social media account we can contact you at other than discord)
Character Name:
Character Application: (must be in the form of a link)
Drawn App: (if uploaded separately from written information)

A mod will react to your application to either accept or deny. We will seldom outright deny an application and will instead offer you tips on how to fix it via private message.
Once any needed fixes are made, or if you are outright accepted to the group, you will be made a member and given roles to roleplay. And buh-bam. You’re a member!

Second characters

Second characters are free to join whenever! To bring in more after this, you must draw and roleplay each of your characters at least twice before adding another character.
ex. you own BLUEPAW and REDFOOT. You want another character. You draw 2 pictures of Bluepaw, 2 pictures of Redfoot, and participate in 2 roleplays each with them. You can now bring in YELLOWNOSE. Now, you want to bring in another character. You must draw 2 more pieces of Bluepaw and Redfoot, 2 pieces of YELLOWNOSE, and roleplay them each twice. Then you may bring in BLACKTAIL. Etc.

To submit a new character for approval, repeat the steps for submitting your first character, and then provide proof (screenshots or links) of any requirements you’d need for a new character.

Killing A Character

You can not freely kill off a character.
In order to kill off a character and open up one of your character slots, your character must die in one of 3 ways.
Hitting 0HP in combat - If you start a legal combat rp (approved by an admin) and hit 0HP, you may have the option to kill your character.
Old age - CaveClan characters will likely die between 160-180 moons. CliffClan characters will likely die between 150-160 moons.
Death Roll - Death Rolls are optional rolls you may partake in during certain group events and activity checks. If you participate in a death roll, you risk losing your character forever (the only exception to this finality is a Death Roll for elder expecting queens, who can back out of a Death Roll). More rules about Death Rolls Will be provided when one is available to take place!
Other than these options, there is no legal way to kill off a character unless you leave the group, and therefore lose all progress towards bans and character slots.

Roleplay Rules

Please try to match your roleplay partners post length. All posts need to be at least 1 paragraph. But more is encouraged.
After a week of inactivity an rp channel may be taken over by someone else.
OOC (Out of character) chat should be kept to the OOC channels in each clan drop-down.
Do not share plot information from your clan rps in main chat if they are specified not to be shared. Keep discussion about this information within your own clan’s OOC chat.
Be polite. Mild swearing is allowed in roleplaying (though we prefer cat-swears be used), but no offensive slurs are allowed. Please respect another member's requests if they prefer swears not be used.
Sexual Harassment of characters (whether granted permission or not) and God Modding without permission will not be tolerated in this group. If it is mentioned in the history of your character, make sure you tag that section with a warning.
Do not force another member into anything they are uncomfortable with, especially if an rp is higher rated than PG-13.
If you think someone is breaking the rules please take a screen shot and send it to the group for the admins to look over. We will not tolerate bullying at all.
If you leave the chat without warning,or are removed for any reason, your character will die or go missing. Please remember to specify in your introduction and in your written application whether or not you are comfortable with a plot related death (“Plot Fodder”) or not. Your character’s name or image will not be mentioned on this website and when you leave, while we will canonically write them out of the rp in some way shape or form, they will continue to be YOURS and past the mentioned event of their death or disappearance, will no longer be mentioned by mods.
1 Month real life = 2 Moons in roleplay.
Age-ups will happen every 1st and 15th of the month.
Kits become apprentices at 6 moons. Apprentices graduate to their preferred profession between 12 and 18 moons.
In order to rank a character up to any rank, please follow these requirements. Submit them to the #rank-up chat when it is time for your character to receive their new rank.

Relationships

No kit relationships can form.
No apprentice relationships may form. Crushes are allowed once a cat reaches 10 moons of age. Apprentices may crush on anyone they like.
Warriors and/or fully named medicine cats under the age of 20 moons may date other warriors under the age of 20 moons. They may not date cats who are of mating age.
Cats over the age of 20 moons may not date or have feelings for cats under the 20 moon threshold.
A warrior may not have feelings for an apprentice.
Cats may not take on a mate until they are at least 20 moons of age. Any roleplays held before a character’s 20th moon will not count towards relationship requirements.
Cats between the age of 20 and 60 moons cannot have an age gap of anything greater than 15 moons.
Cats aged 5 years (60 moons) or older may date anyone of any age 5 years or older, or within the 15 moon limit if a cat is younger than 5 years.
Cats over the age of 120+ moons may not date younger than 80 moons unless said relationship started before they were fucking ancient.
In order for cats to become mates, they must have roleplayed together a total of 4 times and must have been drawn or included in literature pieces together at least twice between the two character players, if they are of the same clan. Mating is the equivalent of marriage, there will be a ceremony.
Cross clan relationships must be approved by an admin, and require 6 roleplays and 4 pieces of art/literature shared between the members of the ship.
Cats may be considered dating after hitting the halfway mark for whatever requirements they must reach. Before that it may only be considered flirting.

Polyamorous Relationships

Polyamorous relationships may only consist of up to 4 cats at a time. (Each cat may only have up to three partners and only four cats may be involved in the same polyamorous ship.)
For example: Starstar and Footfoot are together, and Footfoot also has a relationship with Rockyrock and Tailtail who are together. No more characters could be involved in this ship, even if they were with Starstar who is only dating one cat.
Cats who are outside the 15 moon age range may not interact romantically with each other in ANY way, but they may both date the same cat as long as their relationship between each other remains exclusively platonic. (I’m talking no secret feelings here NOTHIN)
Up to two cats in a poly relationship may sire a litter of kits.
Cats may get Forever Bound in poly ships! The ceremony will be tweaked slightly to work for these groups of felines.
A cat may be bound to an already forever bound couple. Congrats! You get TWO ceremonies!

Grandfathering Relationships

Members may grandfather in characters with established relationships.
At least one of the players of the characters must be an active member of HR. Essentially, we will be treating this function as a ban. If someone is active and the ban is approved, they may invite their friend to join the group with their character’s other half. Of course, you may also both be members, and combine your efforts for the ban as well.
To join with a fully approved, official relationship, the characters in question must meet all of the requirements that HR has for relationships, and be in the same clan. Ie; 4 total roleplays between each other, and 2 art pieces (be they a written piece, or visual art. Commissions of the characters of course do not count).
Characters who have NOT reached the requirements but have hit most or at least half of them and would like to start out in the same clan, may start out with HALF of their requirements “met”. They’ll only need to complete 2 rps and 1 art piece.
Characters who have reached all of the requirements (6rp, 4art) and would like to do a cross clan relationship will start out with 3rps and 2art “completed” and must do the other “half” through rps.
All of the above qualify for a fling, and may talk to mods about starting with their character expecting kittens! Please note that depending on the state of the group, we may deny the kittens request at first.
Characters who have completed most or half the requirements and want a cross clan relationship...are not allowed. All requirements must be met or they need to be in the same clan.
These act the same as a ban, just request a mod to speak about a ban and we’ll hash out the details.

Horizon Remains

A Warrior Cats Roleplay

Character Rules

Members receive 2 free characters upon joining the group. After this, a member must provide at least 2 pieces of art and 2 roleplays per existing character in order to get more character slots. The exception to this is receiving a kitten in a litter try-out.
Cats must be relatively natural. Aka; no crazy colors, wings, perfectly shaped markings, etc. You’re welcome to be creative, just don’t make them a sparkle cat.
All eye colors are allowed (purple & gray are fine), but heterochromic eyes, multi-colored eyes (sectoral heterochromia) and red/pink eyes are a ban. Rainbow eyes are not allowed.
Tail, ear, and fur variations are all allowed without the need of a ban. This includes, but is not limited to: bobbed tails, curled ears, folded ears, kinked tails, wire-y fur, extra long fur.
Cats may not exceed 11in at the shoulder. When marking how tall your cat is, please make sure that they are measured at the shoulder if you are doing so with a line.
Each clan has a different “look” to their clan, which you can read more about in the specific clan blogs. You must take these unique features into account when creating your character.
Accessories are allowed, but nothing over the top. (Human items are near impossible to come across since the clans live far away from any twoleg place.)
Kittypets are rare. Currently there has not been a known kittypet in a couple decades, though some cats are distant descendants. Rouges are more common but usually more hostile than those known in the books. Two-legs are occasionally seen hiking.
No god modding, no Gary/Mary Sues. Be realistic. A balance of strengths and weaknesses.
Please keep in mind where this rp is located. Cats should be named after flora and fauna located in Southwestern United States. Some gemstones may also be used if a cat is of CaveClan.
Be careful not to use a name that is already in use. Only one cat per clan may have the same prefix. (In rare occasions, a kitten may be named after their parent or a close friend/relative of that parent.)
Joke names like Morningwood and Smokeweed will not be accepted.
Long names are fine. Hummingbirdthroat and Blueberrysong are valid and we accept them. Cats can have nicknames if their true name is too long!
Scientific names are tentative. Check with an admin first.
Banned prefixes include Star-, Cliff-, Cave/Cavern-, Earth-, and Sun-, as well as names that have to do with crops, and most trees that are not specifically desert trees. If you are unsure about a name, contact an admin in the server!
Remember to read clan specific rules, there are more rules on naming cats there.
Please keep in mind the territory the cats live in and the lore of the land. Don’t be afraid to include things from our history in your character’s history. Your application will be denied if it is lacking mention of current events or mentions animals that do not belong in the setting.
You may not play as an orphaned kitten or an expectant queen. Kittens can only be obtained through try-outs and expecting queens through roleplay (with the exception of grandfathered in characters). With special permission you may be allowed a permanent queen (ie; Goldenflower, Ferncloud).
Again, remember to check in the lore and character rules of your specific clan! Each clan has unique attributes for cats that you must know before creating a character.
Your character may not have a ban unless granted permission by an admin. Read the bans section for more information on what is considered a ban.

Banned traits

Bans are for active members only. It’s not hard to be considered an active member. If you are interested in creating a character with a ban, go ahead and ask if you can speak to a mod in the #questions chat. We will speak with you in private!
Some bans are limited by clan.
A single cat may only have 2 bans.
Bans can be earned via rp as well.
Physical bans such as blindness, deafness, missing limbs, or arthritis do not apply to elders.
No one may join the group with a banned trait UNLESS said character is a try-out from an active member.
Currently there are only a few of each ban, but if population within the clans increase significantly, so will bans!
Rogue history is banned currently in CliffClan. CaveClan is still open to outsiders.
YOU MAY FIND OUR BAN LIST AT THIS LINK.

Horizon Remains

A Warrior Cats Roleplay

The world of Horizon Remains (much like the actual world of warriors) is based off of real world areas, but does not necessarily exist in the real world. The group takes place in a jagged, land-bound mountain range, filled with cliffs and valleys. The mountain range is scripted to exist within a desert biome (a mild desert biome, like you’d find in Texas or Arizona United States), but since it is so high in elevation, the weather fluctuates pretty flawlessly with the seasons. You know how in the real world summer likes to skip fall and go right to winter, and vise versa? At HR we actually get those seasons! As for CaveClan, you could really just google search caves and you’d know what it’s supposed to look like. It’s based lightly off of Kartchner Caverns and other similar crystal caverns.

History

Art by Henna.

The Cats of the Sun were a nomadic tribe, never here nor there for very long. Their ways proved fruitful in some aspects, they always had new blood from passing so many different places, food never ran out from too-frequent hunting, and rivalry over territory wasn’t very much of a concern. But there was a con. They never knew where to find shelter, they never knew how many predators they would face in every new territory. If a cat got sick, they were left behind. It was a tough life for the weak and young alike. Queens, despite the new life in their belly, were never given much time to rest because young cats with just as new blood as the kits that were old enough to defend themselves already to boot were about.

One such queen was named Windsong. Her belly full of kits, she traveled with The Cats of the Sun. She was well liked, a true queen among her cats, and her mate a king - the cat who had recently taken up leadership of the bunch. While he, named Bellhopper, was not as highly valued as his mate, it spoke of change for the tribe. When Windsong’s kittens were birthed it seemed as if the cats were actually going to settle down, if the way all the cats looked up to Windsong as a group mother was anything to go by.

When a horrible caterwaul rang out, Bellhopper was first on the scene, only to see his mate being carried away by a giant bird, bigger than him or his tribe had ever hunted before. Without a thought, Bellhopper moved to chase his mate, but his tribemates stopped him. “What about your kits?” They asked. “They can’t lose their mother and their father.” Succumbing to their points of view with utmost reluctance, Bellhopper sent a patrol of his fastest, strongest cats to tail the bird to it’s hollow while he and the group and his kits followed their scents at a manageable pace.

The days long walk lead them towards the mountains. Bellhopper tried to prepare himself for the worst. Never before had he heard of a cat getting taken by a bird and living to tell the tale. And yet, once the cat’s made their way up the mountain, there stood Windsong in one piece, making nests of all things with the patrol that had been sent earlier the previous day.

“Windsong was marvelous!”
“You should have seen her, Bellhopper!”
“She fought that bird right out of the sky!”

Windsong was proud of her achievement, and relieved to see her kitten’s faces again. But Bellhopper and many of his patrol were frightened by the events, scared that their loved one had come so close to death. Bellhopper suggested that they change their ways. Their group was large enough in number to sustain for generations! They didn’t need to move, and continue risking their lives against unknown odds. Windsong agreed and they settled under overhanging rocks on a cliff face.

Several moons following, Bellhopper discovered the entrance to a massive cave, and led a patrol inside. After returning, he suggested the cats move inside, away from the danger of the outside world, but Windsong refused, said that they were the Cats of the Sun, and deserved to live there just as they always had. The cats put up a vote, but ultimately stayed on the surface. Until many moons later, Bellhopper was usurped by his two kittens, Cavern and Cliff.

The siblings had different ideas of leading, watching their parents devolve from great co-leaders to fighting day in and day out over the territory they took up. Cavern decided to take whoever wanted to live in the cave with her and make her home in the caves that had interested her since they’d been discovered, and Cliff kept his cats under the sun while his mother watched on proudly.

Bellhopper disappeared some moons later in the depths of the cave, never to return. Cliff was distraught, and argued that the caves were dangerous. But Cavern was quick to defend the caves, pointed out how not two days ago had an eagle come and stolen kits from the camp on the surface. They both had growing to do, and Cavern started with finality that they would do it on their own. She drew a border in the sand between the two, and began having her followers mark the border daily. The cats of the cave began mockingly calling the cats who stayed on the cliff, CliffClan. Cliff reversed this, and began sneering about the cats of CaveClan.

Eventually, the names stuck. Tensions ran high between the clans for many moons.
Cliff strayed from the ways of their ancestors for so many generations and appointed a deputy from outside of their bloodline, while Cavern remained true to their ways and named their eldest child, XXX, their second in command.

The hierarchy of the clans wasn’t the only thing that changed. As time passed under the two leaders, so did customs. Cats who were born began taking on naming conventions. It was only after a cat proved themself loyal to their own clan, and decided against venturing to visit the other, that they earned their “Warrior name”. CliffClan divided it's warriors into different categories; the Guard and the Prey Hunter, each specializing in a different job to protect their warriors from dangers, and hunt prey to feed the clan. Meanwhile, CaveClan began exploring the tunnels further and further, finding secret exits, and marking off pathways that were dangerous.

Cats in CaveClan slowly began losing their eyesight in the dark. And more frequently, litters of kittens would be born blind. Cats grew slender and boney on the mainly-bug diet of the underground. On the mountaintop, because of a constant fight for survival against the elements, CliffClan cats often grew bulkier. Their fur was thick, to protect against the hot summer sun, and the biting bitter mountain chill of the winter. The cats outside focused more on strength, while those in the earth focused on intelligence and quick decisions.

The clans did not get along, but they could coexist without tearing each other’s throats out. So long as CliffClan kept to the mountaintops, and CaveClan kept inside the earth, everything would be fine.

Timeline

MBS = Moons Before Start (of roleplay)

??? MBS - The tribe is nomadic. They travel, pick up strangers, etc. For as long as they can remember.
100 MBS - Cliff and Cavern are born to Windsong and Bellhopper
97 MBS - Windsong is taken by the bird. A few days later, they find her in the mountains. The cats decide to stay here.
94 MBS - Bellhopper locates the caves and begins exploring them. Bellhopper and Windsong start bickering over where to live.
70 MBS - Cliff and Cavern usurp Bellhopper.
73 MBS - Cavern leads half the tribe into the caves and establishes a camp. Cliff stays above in their makeshift camp and names his kit of 3 moons, Cougar (Cougartooth), as his heir, or deputy.
72 MBS - Cliff and Cavern establish a regular meeting every 2 moons between the leaders of their clans to exchange news of death or kit birth. Regular warriors are not invited to these meetings.
71 MBS - The rockfall happens and creates dens for the cats. CliffClan establishes their camp.
67 MBS - Bellhopper goes missing in the caves. Cavern marks an official border between their territories. The clans begin living completely separately.
65 MBS - CliffClan and CaveClan receive their names.
64 MBS - Cliff introduces naming conventions and the Warrior ceremony as a symbol of loyalty to your clan.
63 MBS - Cavern hears of Cliff’s ideas and starts using it for her own clan.
62 MBS - Windsong dies of old age. Both clans accept a day of peace to mourn. Tensions between clans get worse afterwards.
61 MBS - Cavern names her kitten of one moon, Gracklekit(Grackleshade), as her heir, or deputy.
60 MBS - Cliff creates two separate ranks for his warriors to defend them against the creatures that may hunt them.
40 MBS - The first litter of mostly-blind kittens is born to CaveClan. This becomes a trend in litters. Some grown cats are also starting to lose their sense of eyesight.
36 MBS - Cougartooth, Cliff’s only son, dies. His daughter refuses the role as leader. Cliff names Newtchirp as deputy, effectively ending his lineage in CliffClan.
32 MBS - Cavern and Cliff stop meeting on the border to discuss clan affairs as they are becoming too hostile.
30 MBS - Cavern bars cats from traveling to CaveClan any longer except to announce deaths. Cats who leave CaveClan and then try to re-join are met with hostility. Cliff echoes this sentiment soon after. Cats are forced to decide where their loyalties lie.
20 MBS - Any cat who did not previously have a Warrior name is given a Warrior name.
10 MBS - Cliff dies. Newtchirp becomes leader of CliffClan.
5 MBS - Cavern dies of illness in her older age. Grackleshade becomes leader.

Your story starts here

June, Year 1 - Roleplay begins.
July-September, Year 1 - The Monsoons enter full swing, and begin a storm that lasts longer than normal. This increases tensions between CaveClan and CliffClan’s leaders as CaveClan begins hunting on CliffClan territory.
October, Year 1 - The flooding continues into Harvest Season, forcing a starving CaveClan to hunt on CliffClan territory so often that CliffClan is ordered to attack CaveClan warriors on sight if they are on or near their territory. A dangerous brawl breaks out between CliffClan cats; Redthrasher, Jackaltooth, Owlgaze, Skunknose, Dunerunner, and Snakestripe, and CaveClan cats; Coyotesong, Cereusface, Ravenpaw, Quailspark, Beetlepaw, and Starlingmoon, ending in a declaration of war from Grackleshade when her clan are discovered fleeing across the border into neutral territory.
November, Year 1 - CliffClan discover that one if their clanmates has been killed and one has gone missing right inside of neutral territory with CliffClan. CaveClan has sent spies (Cereusface, Petalwish) to figure out their next move, and the spies happen to hear Newtchirp order an attack on CaveClan, suspecting them of the death of one and kidnapping of another CliffClan cat. CaveClan gets little warning from the spies and ends up retreating into the caves. Two CaveClan apprentices (Beetlepaw, Adderpaw) receive a prophecy *Should the bird under stone emerge from it’s shadow, a star will fall, and be borne again,”* while lost in the caves, but no one believes them. Meanwhile, CliffClan is attacked by a bear after waking her from her hibernation. A cross-clan relationship also comes to light during the raid(Starlingmoon and Owlgaze, discovered by Jackaltooth, Juncojaw, and Viperpaw). Grackleshade leads CliffClan away from the bear after Tallstep reveals that the deaths may have been from a mountain lion and not the CaveClan leader, and the clans settle in the Escape Tunnel on a grudging truce to keep safe from the bear. A CaveClan cat dies from a mysterious, non-contagious(?) sickness deemed Red Cough. Grackleshade and Newtchirp declare that from now on, their clans will see blood any time they should meet, and CliffClan leave the caves.
December, Year 1 - The clans lick their wounds, punish any cats who deserve punishment, and prepare for moons of war. Owlgaze is banished.
January-February, Year 2 - General fighting and skirmishes between the clans. Cats don’t die in battle, but some succumb to wounds afterwards due to the general lack of herbs during Snow Season. Cereusface mysteriously goes missing...
March, Year 2 - CaveClan and CliffClan welcome several new kits to the clan! It is a welcome distraction from the war that still rages. Grackleshade establishes a CaveClan guard of only her most loyal warriors to defend the entrance to the caves.
April-May, Year 2 - Tallstep and Thunderfoot go missing from CliffClan and are presumed dead. A cat is named as deputy. A certain cat is brought to CaveClan to fight off an illness that would have otherwise killed them. Another cat shows up in CaveClan, too, and is given the name Birdsnatcher. Both foreign cats are confined to the medicine cat’s den.

YEAR 2

CAVECLAN

January-February, Year 2 - General fighting and skirmishes between the clans. Cats don’t die in battle, but some succumb to wounds afterwards due to the general lack of herbs during Snow Season. Cereusface mysteriously goes missing...
March, Year 2 - CaveClan and CliffClan welcome several new kits to the clan! It is a welcome distraction from the war that still rages. Grackleshade establishes a CaveClan guard of only her most loyal warriors to defend the entrance to the caves.
April-May, Year 2 - Tallstep is brought to CaveClan to fight off an illness that would have otherwise killed him. Owlgaze shows up in CaveClan, too, and is given the name Birdsnatcher. Both foreign cats are confined to the medicine cat’s den. A cat catches and dies of the illness that Tallstep brought. A warrior is killed in battle.
June, Year 2 - Grackleshade sends Tallstep, recovered, home to CliffClan, with a message- that she would like peace. Too many of her warriors have died of late. She plans a peace treaty for the next moon, and in that timeframe, gives both clans a chance to lick the wounds of war.
July, Year 2 - MAJOR EVENT
ARC 1 FINALE PMV. Unbeknownst to the rest of the clan, Grackleshade and her deputy, Falconwatcher, have planned to betray the treaty, and use it to ambush Newtchirp. Newtchirp and Falconwatcher fall to each other’s claws. At the sight of her dead daughter, Grackleshade abandons the gathering, leaving her next (qualified) in line kin, Juncojaw, in charge by default. Juncojaw passes this position off to Coyotesong in a panic. The Cats of the Stars appear to the clans, and grant Newtchirp, now Newtstar, 9 lives. Received with mixed reactions, the Cats of the Stars grudgingly understand the clans’ reluctance to follow them blindly, but beg the clans to work together, or the future ahead will prove catastrophic. Newtstar, who has seen visions of this future, agrees, and he and Coyotesong arrange a future meeting of cats who are not leaders, for the sake of sharing information and making peace.
August, Year 2 - Grackleshade returns to CaveClan looking...awful, carried by Quailspark. After a night of recovery, she addresses the clan and informs them that her name is now Gracklestar, and she’s been given 8 lives. She announces that Coyotesong will stay her deputy, and that she will actively seek peace with CliffClan, as she has seen the error of her ways. She claims that she sparred with an angry coyote while she was gone, but not all cats believe that’s why she returned in such poor condition. CaveClan link the Cats of the Stars with the Crystal Caverns, as that is where they found Gracklestar receiving her lives. The first peace meeting between clan ambassadors Skunknose and Quailspark is successful.

CLIFFCLAN

January-February, Year 2 - General fighting and skirmishes between the clans. Cats don’t die in battle, but some succumb to wounds afterwards due to the general lack of herbs during Snow Season. A rouge is spotted on the border- a cat formerly of CaveClan. Newtchirp expresses distrust.
March, Year 2 - CaveClan and CliffClan welcome several new kits to the clan! It is a welcome distraction from the war that still rages. No CliffClan cat can safely approach the border. Meanwhile, illness begins to take hold of the clan. A prophecy is delivered. ”คt thē ¢คll ໐f thē ๖ir໓, thē Şนຖ ຟill fคll, คຖ໓ thē ŞtคrŞ ຟill riŞē.”
April, Year 2 - Clanmates go missing. Many have abandoned the clan in their time of need, and perhaps some have died. Newtchirp closes the borders to rouges, unwilling to entertain disloyalty to his clan any longer.
May, Year 2 - Illness spreads, taking lives. Tallstep, severely ill, and Thunderfoot go missing and are presumed dead. Bearclaw is named as deputy.

CliffClan

You choose CliffClan, cats of the sun...

Territory

Among the perilous edges and winding valleys of the mountain chain is the territory of CliffClan. CliffClan makes its home on a tall mountain, covered with both plant life and prey, however scarce it may be in the extreme of seasons. CliffClan’s territory is a lot of wide, open space broken up with jutting rocks and steep cliffs. While there is a lot of open space, its a good idea to keep an eye on where you are. One wrong pawstep could send you over a cliffedge to your doom. While some of the flatter expanses work well for chasing prey out of the cover of plants and small dens, it is also a dangerous place to be for too long. When hunting, a patrol will typically station one or two warriors atop one of the ancient saguaros that dot the territory in the lower regions of the mountain, or on the tallest rocks near the top to keep a look-out for birds and warn any unknowing apprentices of a cliffedge.
While there are a few springs that stem out the side of the mountain cracks, CliffClan’s most permanent source of water is the underground lake that marks the border and gathering place between them and CaveClan. When the brooks and streams in their territory dry out or freeze over, they tend to rely on the great cave lake a lot.

Camp

Situated between two look-out posts and a sheer rocky incline is CliffClan’s camp. The rock wall behind the camp gives the cats shelter from the worst of the weather on a cold or windy day, and prevents any kittens from falling to their doom. The dens are each different. The nursery is not so much a nursery as it is an individual den for each queen. Dried out or frostbitten cacti have been carefully dug out (similar to what birds do to saguaros in the desert) and made into den spaces for nursing queens. The snug walls keep any newborn kittens warm while the spiny outsides are used to hopefully protect the queen and her kits from any dangerous outside predators. Elders take on a similar type of den, though because they are old and it is difficult to climb, some tend to nestle down in the center of the warriors den instead. Warriors and apprentices make their home underneath some of the fallen rock formations from the cliff, as does the leader. Lastly, the medicine cat den is tucked away in one of the crevices in the cliff. CliffClan cats tend to tease and taunt their medicine cat for hiding away in an underground hole like CaveClan.

Customs and behaviors

CliffClan warriors come in 2 kinds; hunters and guards. When guards become warriors, they are often assigned to 2 hunters. Once assigned, these groups of cats very rarely will go out on patrol without each other, the guard is their sworn protector until death (or until someone is reassigned).CliffClan cats depend heavily on eyesight and their knowledge of the territory when hunting.CliffClan cats are more likely to allow outsiders into their clan, this includes rouges, kitty-pets, and bobcats. At night and at any given time of day, 2 cats (including at least 1 guard) keep up post in one of the saguaros in front of camp.CliffClan cats are mildly disrespectful towards their medicine cats, often showing them the same sort of walk-over behavior they show CaveClan.CliffClan’s deputy is selected based on loyalty and strength rather than blood and lineage.CliffClan bury their dead in the ground. They don’t have any specific burial grounds; the simply lay cats to rest wherever it is believed they would have been happiest.

Unique character traits

CliffClan cats are thick in build with broad, muscled shoulders and haunches built for jumping and climbing.CliffClan warriors come in all colors, but tend to cover themselves in mud and grass-stains to blend in better with their surroundings in the warm season. (it’s not unusual for a CliffClan cat’s fur to be stained gray, brown or green from all the gunk they’ve been rolling in all their life)

Traditions shared with CaveClan

Gatherings ... Do not exist yet. Currently, there is no guaranteed peaceful way for the clans to meet, unless it is to exchange a kit, or share news of a passed family member to their blood in the opposite clan. If a kitten born to CaveClan is born deaf or mute, they will be taken to be raised in CliffClan. A deaf or mute cat will have a poor quality of life, and likely would not survive, in the pitch darkness that is most of CaveClan’s territory. CliffClan may not reject a kitten no matter what state the relationship between the clans are.If a kitten born to CliffClan is born blind, they will be taken to be raised in CaveClan. CliffClan cats rely heavily on the gift of sight to survive in their territory. From spotting hawks and other predators, to simply traversing the territory. A blind cat would never be able to leave camp without the likelihood they may fall to their death in the canyons. CaveClan is more suited to raising blind cats, as half of their population is already. CaveClan may not reject a kitten no matter what state the relationship between the clans are. While it is considered breaking the code to mate with a cat of the opposite clan, it is not considered as much to mate with a rogue or loner. In fact, this much is encouraged in order to bring fresh blood into the clans.

Creatures of the sun

Prey

Bird Species (includes birds of prey such as hawk practice caution)Rodents; Ground Squirrel, Kangaroo Rat, Long-tailed Weasel, Ringtail, Skunk, White-throated Wood Rat, etc.Rabbits; Jackrabbit, Desert CottontailOther: Pallid Bat, Lesser Long-nosed Bat, Lizards, Frogs, Snakes, Desert Plants
* Note: Could cause danger to and potentially kill a cat when approached, but does not aim to kill unless provoked. Proceed with caution.

Neutral

Black Bear - Because the cats are so small, they typically do not go to the trouble of hunting the cats. As long as the cats leave the bears and their cubs alone, they will not harm each other. Seldom seen.Coati - Because of their similar size to the cats, these creatures tend to leave the clans alone, and vice versa. If provoked, they will fight, but if left alone, they are fine and in fact, can prove as a valuable ally against predators.Porcupine - Very seldom seen as they don’t climb higher than where the tree-line ends.Bobcat - Bobcats speak a similar language to the clan cats, and so these two species are able to communicate with moderate civility. It is best to avoid them, but it has been known for a bobcat to join CliffClan in the past.Hooved animals; Desert Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer, Elk, Javelina, Pronghorn/Antelope
Predators

Mountain Lion (Puma) - The biggest danger to the clans. If one is spotted in the area, it is best to find shelter as soon as possible.Feral Bobcats - As stated previously, it is best to avoid bobcats. While they can sometimes be friendly with the clan cats, they can also be completely opposite and inflict a lot of damage.Canines - Coyote, Gray Fox, Kit FoxBirds; Hawks, Eagles, Buzzards, Etc.

CaveClan

You choose CaveClan, cats of the Earth...

Territory

Among the deep crevices of CliffClan sits the hole that CaveClan calls it’s home. A deep hole in the mountain deads into an underground lake. Follow the path around this great lake and you will find the territory of CaveClan. CaveClan is dark, expansive, and wet. The tunnel that leads from the gathering cavern is the last of the light a cat will see before they are plunged into the darkness that only a CaveClan cat can maneuver.
CaveClan’s tunnels are seemingly endless, apparently extending down into the very pit of the mountain and into the ground level below. Even CaveClan’s bravest have not explored all of the caves, some who are note careful to mark their way are even known to never return from the depths. There is no specificity to the pattern of the tunnels in CaveClan’s territory, some go up, some go down, some branch and some do not. But it is rare for a fully trained CaveClan cat to get lost in them.
The darkness and wetness are the most notable traits of CaveClan’s territory. In the furthest reaches known from their camp, cats can find the crystal caverns; a room filled with sharp gemstones, stalactites, stalagmites and pillars. It is by far the most beautiful room, believed to hold some sort of celestial secret, though the cats have yet to figure it out. Down here, the only other known source of light besides the sunlight is glowworms, bugs that light up the cave systems. The Crystal Caverns shine with an ethereal light when these bugs fill the room, and the CaveClan warriors that still have sight say it’s the most beautiful thing they’ve ever known.

Camp

CaveClan’s camp is at a higher elevation than its entrance only to keep it from flooding (which is very rare in general). Taking the back way out of camp leads to the only known exit to the caves besides the great lake entrance. The exit leads to a near-straight drop, and it is quite possibly a death wish to maneuver down from it. But in case of an emergency, cats are able to fit through the crack and clamber their way down. Larger predators would not be able to follow the path.
Inside the camp is one of the very few completely dry spots in CaveClan territory. While there are no individual dens, cats are free to claim indents in the wall or indents in the floor for their nest, and they have the right to the dibs of that nest until they move in with a mate or die. Cats that have not claimed a special nest, usually younger warriors and apprentices, sleep on the outer edges of camp and are the first line of defense if there is ever an emergency.

Customs and behaviors

New✨ CaveClan have recently begun Exploration Quests, to descend into the earth and find new territory and uses for tunnels past the Edge of Exploration. These quests will be roleplay events and can be signed up for in the quests channels on discord. Unlocking new territory also earns exclusive accessories for CaveClan cats. In CaveClan, the older a cat is, the more valuable their life is considered. With age comes knowledge of the cave systems, and if an elder cat is killed without passing down all that they know, the clan knows that they may be in danger. If the oldest cat in CaveClan disagrees with the appointed CaveClan leader, they are the only cat besides the medicine cat that have a right to challenge a leader and lead a vote. Before a CaveClan cat can become a warrior, they must catch a furred animal and strip it of its fur (typically this includes venturing outside of the cave). They spend the next week preparing the pelt to be used as cover from the cold in snow season as well as a nest liner. At any ceremony, rather than calling a cat's name loudly, CaveClan will instead rub their paws against the stone below their paws and whisper-chant the new name. This is so they don't lure any enemies to their camp.Medicine Cats and their apprentices are among the very few cats that ever venture outside of the cave on a regular basis in order to collect herbs.CaveClan’s deputy is selected based on blood-relation to their leader. Typically, it is the leader’s eldest child. When a cat dies in CaveClan, the cats prepare a boat of sorts to send their late clanmate on “one last journey”. They float their clanmate down The Dead Falls as a tribute to their old nomad lifestyle. Sometimes, however, if a cat knows they will die soon and are able, they will wander off into the deep deep tunnels of CaveClan, and live their final journey firsthand.

Unique character traits

CaveClan cats tend to suffer from loss of sight, often from birth. Easily ⅓ of the clan is blind or partially blind if not more. This is due to the near pitch dark conditions that they’ve lived in for generations.Cats recently have been found to be born with missing fur, and/or without eyes. CaveClan cats are relatively skinny, but not malnourished. This allows them nearly silent footfall within the caves to catch their prey.A cat's name may have nothing to do with how they look. If a parent is completely blind, they sometimes will simply name their kitten what they think sounds pretty. (ie. Orange tabby kitten is named Bluekit, Shadowkit is all-white)

Only found near the cave entrance: Owls, Ringtail, Skunk, White-throated Wood Rat, Jackrabbit, Desert Cottontail, Salamanders, FrogsAquatic; Troglobiontic Salamander, White Salamander, Cave Fish, Blind Cave Fish, Crabs, Shrimp, Crayfish, Other Crustaceans, Etc.Bats; Tricolored Bat, Mexican Free-Tailed Bat, Northern Long-eared Bat, (Big) Brown BatOther: Carrion, Insects
Note: Could cause danger to and potentially kill a cat when approached, but does not aim to kill unless provoked. Proceed with caution.

Neutral

Black Bear - CaveClan tends to host one or two Black Bears per snow season (against their will) in their cave systems. The bears find an empty tunnel away from the main path and trust that the cats will not wake them and will keep danger (like mountain lions) away. In this, they are allies, but wake a bear and you will endanger your entire clan.Coati - Because of their similar size to the cats, these creatures tend to leave the clans alone, and vice versa. If provoked, they will fight, but if left alone, they are fine and in fact, can prove as a valuable ally against predators.Bobcat - Bobcats speak a similar language to the clan cats, and have been known to join CliffClan in the past. They are not nearly as friendly with CaveClan, but can be civil if allied with CliffClan.
Predators

Mountain Lion (Puma) - The biggest danger to the clans. If one wanders into the cave, a cat is trained to find the most narrow passage that they can, or otherwise take the emergency exit out of camp and pray that it falls to its death. CaveClan will welcome any CliffClan cat into their territory if a mountain lion is spotted.Feral Bobcats - As stated previously, it is best to avoid bobcats. While they can sometimes be friendly with the clan cats, they can also be completely opposite and inflict a lot of damage.Canines - Coyote, Gray Fox, Kit FoxBirds; Owls, Buzzards

F.a.q.

“Does StarClan exist in this roleplay?”
Cats of the Stars have been discovered! Please check the history section to learn more!

"How many cats can I have?"
For the time being, there is no character cap. That being said, only 2 of your characters come free. Your 3rd, 4th, and so on characters must be earned through artwork.

"Can Medicine cats have a mate/kittens?"
Medicine cats may have mates! However, it is not advised for a medicine cat to bare kittens. It is not unheard of for a medicine cat to have kittens despite this, but they must be willing to give up their title of medicine cat, and have a fully trained apprentice to take their place permanently, if they wish to parent their kittens. Otherwise, in the case of an accidental pregnancy or a lack of an apprentice, a medicine cat must give their kittens up, even if their kittens have to go live in another clan.

"May I join as a kit without a queen?"
Kits must be born into the clans. For the time being there will be no exceptions to this rule.

“I’m 17, but I turn 18 in xmonths! Can I join?”
No. Wait until you’re 18. You’re welcome to start working on an application! On that note, if you lie about your age to us and we find out, you will receive an immediate ban from the group. Permanently.

"Where are we allowed to roleplay?"
You can roleplay anywhere your little heart desires!! The HR Discord will have rooms designed for roleplay, and it is recommended you use those, but you are free to rp anywhere including, but not limited to; private messages, deviantART Notes, Google Docs, etc. Just make sure nothing extreme happens in private RPs without admin permission (:
